Know Exactly When and How Much to Water
Soil Smart
Soil Smart is an all inclusive irrigation sensor. It is recommended to install one sensor per irrigation zone.
Each sensor provides 3 measurements in one:
Soil Volumetric Water Content (VWC)
Soil Bulk Electrical Conductivity (EC)
Soil Temperature
Soil Smart sensors give you an overview of the short and long term trends of your crop’s water and salinity demands. Install one sensor per irrigation zone for a complete view of every one of your irrigation cycles.
Flora Cloud alerts you when your volumetric water content falls outside a set threshold. This allows you to respond to the demands of your crop, making sure you water before your plants become stressed.
By tracking bulk EC, you can learn long term trends of your soil salinity. This allows you to precisely irrigate your soils to ensure proper leaching of salts from your root zone.
Temperature monitoring allows for informed fertilization decisions. Nutrient uptake is dependent on the soil temperature in the root zone. Flora Cloud helps you confirm that your costly fertilizer isn’t going to waste, or worse, causing excess salt build up that can harm your crop.
Single and Dual Soil Tension
Although they require more maintenance than other solutions, tensiometers are the gold standard when it comes to measuring your plant’s available water. Flora Instruments’ Single and Dual Soil Tension sensors connect your tensiometer to Flora Cloud. Its as simple as installing a 1/4” tee. It is recommended to install one sensor per irrigation zone. A dual sensor system can tell you your water penetration depth every irrigation cycle.
Flora Cloud’s trend plotting will check your tensiometer every two hours, giving you a view of your soil tension that is impossible with traditional spot checks and manual logging.
With the Flora Cloud app, you can receive notifications directly to your phone or email when your soil tension goes out of specified bounds.
Flora Cloud can also help with tensiometer maintenance. Anyone who has used a tensiometer knows the frustration of encountering a damaged or drained tensiometer and wondering how that happened and for how long. Flora Cloud’s trend monitoring is excellent for cross checking a suspect gauge, a damaged seal, or a drained reservoir. And the alerts can let you know immediately when a tensiometer fails and starts reporting erroneously low readings.
Soil Moisture
Tensiometers are more accurate, but their maintenance and installation requirements translate into extra labor and maintenance that many cannot afford. The soil moisture sensor is a maintenance free solution which will still provide you with soil moisture trends. It is recommended to install one sensor per irrigation zone. This dual sensor system can tell you your water penetration depth every irrigation cycle.
The Flora Instruments soil moisture sensor comes with two preinstalled Irrometer “Watermark” sensors to ensure a reliable maintenance free measurement for years. Installation is as simple as installing standalone watermarks, but now with an integrated logging solution.
Our sensors are designed to be distributed, so you do not need to concentrate your measurements in one location. They also interoperate, so if you have some tenisometers and some soil moisture sensors, all of that soil moisture data can be combined and monitored in Flora Cloud.
With the Flora Cloud app, you can receive notifications directly to your phone or email when your estimated soil tension goes out of specified bounds, just like our tensiometer kit.
